Housing & Meal Plan

Information on housing and meal plans for your return semester.

Housing

The Office of Residential Life provides detailed information about the housing lottery, proxy forms, and general information concerning housing procedures. You will need to be in contact with Residential Life directly (Res_Life@brown.edu or 401-863-3500) about your anticipated return to the campus.

Fall Term

If you are returning to Brown for the fall term, the Office of Residential Life will contact you in June regarding the online Housing Preference Form, which is due in mid-July. Students with disabilities may request reasonable accommodations in their housing assignments and can refer to the Housing Accommodations and Requests Process web page for more details. Room assignments for students returning from abroad are sent to your Brown University email address in mid-August.

Spring Term

If you are returning to Brown for the spring term, the Office of Residential Life will contact you regarding the online Mid-Year Housing Form, which is due in mid-November. If you do not hear from Residential Life by December, you should contact them directly.  Room assignments for students returning from abroad are sent to your Brown University email address in mid-January.

Meal Plan

When students sign a Study Abroad Leave Form, their meal plan is automatically canceled for their semester abroad. Dining Services assumes that students are no longer on the meal plan when they return to campus from a semester/year abroad.

Re-enroll

If you wish to participate in a meal plan when you return from study abroad, it is your responsibility to re-enroll in a meal plan; you will not automatically be re-enrolled in the plan and must make a request through Banner as soon as possible if you wish to participate in a meal plan when you return from your study abroad semester(s).

Depending on the timing of your return from your study abroad semester and when student billing statements are generated for the upcoming semester at Brown, you may find you have not been billed for a meal plan when your billing statement is first issued. Please expect these charges to appear on subsequent statement updates and plan your budget accordingly; you will be responsible for paying these charges, even if they appear on your student account after a financial aid refund has been issued.

Questions

Questions concerning the terms of Meal Plan Contracts should be directed to the Dining Services office (by phone 401-863-3343 or email dining_services@brown.edu). More information on meal plans can be found on the Brown Dining Services website, including details on making meal plan changes and relevant deadlines.

Students can contact Student Financial Services (by email studentfinancialservices@brown.edu or by phone at (401) 863-2484) for more information about how their January and subsequent bills will appear after dining charges are applied.
