Submitting an Application & Deadlines—Brown Students

Deadlines for completion of the Brown study abroad application should be used as a guide for planning.

Fall Semester and Full Year Programs

  • Applications for Fall 2026 and full academic year 2026-27 study abroad programs are closed.
  • Applications for 2027-28 Oxford and Cambridge study abroad programs will open in early November. All other Fall 2027 and full academic year 2027-28 programs will open in late December.

Spring Semester

  • Spring 2027 Study Abroad applications are open.

Regardless of program type, all students must submit an online application through the Brown Study Abroad application portal ViaTRM.

Please note that you are permitted to have only one active application per application cycle.

Below you'll find additional application guidance based on program type:

  • Applications for Brown and Consortium for Advanced Studies Abroad (CASA) programs are processed on a rolling admissions basis. Early applications are highly encouraged.
  • If you are applying to an Approved program or Petition program you must complete the Brown Study Abroad application through our office and the application for the program provider, whose deadline may differ from our application deadlines below. Please refer to the program provider website for information about their application deadlines.
  • It is best to apply early to an Approved or Petition program because many program providers accept applications on a rolling admissions basis.
  • If you are considering an Approved or Petition Program, we recommend that you apply as soon as possible, even if you have not yet received study abroad approval from Brown.

Brown Study Abroad Advising Application Requirements

General demographic information—name, email, address, etc.

Personal Statement—Your personal statement will be a response to three questions. Your essay should be approximately 400–500 words (1–2 pages) and should be your own original work, written for the purpose of your study abroad application.

  • Why have you chosen to study abroad through this particular program/university, and how does it support your academic, personal, and career goals? 
  • How will you engage with your host culture, and how do you see yourself in this new space?
  • What will you carry forward from your semester abroad?

Deadlines for Fall 2026/Full Year 2026–2027 and Spring 2027 Study Abroad

 Fall 2026 and Full Year 2026-27 Deadlines
December 1, 2025Deadline to submit Oxford-Cambridge internal applications for the 2026-2027 academic year.
January 15. 2026

Deadline to submit University College London (UCL), King's College London, and King’s College Health & Society Program internal applications. Students must submit their Brown study abroad application and any supporting materials by this date.

Deadline to submit all Petition Program applications. All petition applications and any required supporting materials (e.g., transcript, letter of support) must be received by this date.

February 1, 2026Final Internal application deadline for all other Fall 2026 programs. Students must submit their Brown study abroad application and any supporting materials by this date. For Approved Alternative programs, students should also be aware of external program application deadlines.
March 15, 2026Commitment Deadline for Fall 2026/Full Year 2026-27 study abroad. 
 

Spring 2027 Deadlines

August  1, 2026

Final deadline for Study Abroad Petition applications (petition applications and all supporting materials must be received by this date); students should also be aware of external program application deadlines.

Final internal application deadline for Brown in Bologna, Brown in Paris, CASA Dublin, King’s College London, King’s College Health & Society Program, and University College London (UCL). Students must submit their Brown study abroad application and any supporting materials by this date.

August 15, 2026

Recommended application deadline for Brown Semester Internship Program in Cape Town. 

Final internal application deadline for all other Brown/CASA and Approved Alternative study abroad programs. Students must submit their Brown study abroad application and any supporting materials by this date. 

For Approved Alternative programs, students should also be aware of external program application deadlines.

September 15, 2026

Final application deadline for Brown Semester Internship Program in Cape Town.  

October 1, 2026Final application deadline for Brown Semester Internship Program in Sydney and Brown in Washington program.
November 1, 2026Study Abroad Advising Commitment Deadline for Spring 2027 study abroad. Students must submit their Study Abroad Leave form and Commitment Form by this date.
