Submitting an Application & Deadlines - Brown Students

Deadlines for completion of the Brown study abroad application should be used as a guide for planning.

Applications for Spring 2025 are now closed. Applications for 2025-26 Oxford and Cambridge programs will open in November. Applications for all other Fall 2025 and full year 2025-26 programs will open in late December.

Regardless of program type, all students must submit an online application through the Brown Study Abroad application portal ViaTRM.

Please note that you are permitted to have only one active application per application cycle.

Below you'll find additional application guidance based on program type:

  • Applications for Brown and Consortium for Advanced Studies Abroad (CASA) programs are processed on a rolling admissions basis. Early applications are highly encouraged. 
  • If you are applying to an Approved program or Petition program you must complete the Brown Study Abroad application through our office and the application for the program provider, whose deadline may differ from our application deadlines below. Please refer to the program provider website for information about their application deadlines.
  • It is best to apply early to an Approved or Petition program because many program providers accept applications on a rolling admissions basis.
  • If you are considering an Approved or Petition Program, we recommend that you apply as soon as possible, even if you have not yet received study abroad approval from Brown.

Deadlines for Fall 2025 and Full Year 2025 - 2026 Programs

December 1, 2024Deadline to submit Oxford-Cambridge internal applications for the 2025-2026 academic year.
February 1, 2025

Recommended Internal application deadline for all Fall 2025 applications:  Students are strongly encouraged to submit their Brown study abroad application and any supporting materials by this date.  For Approved Alternative programs, students should also be aware of external program application deadlines.

All Petition Program applications and supporting materials must be received by this date

March 1, 2025Final Internal application deadline for all programs. All applications and any required supporting materials (e.g., transcript, recommendation forms, etc.) must be received by the Brown study abroad staff by this date.
April 1, 2025Commitment Deadline for Fall 2025/Full Year 2025-26 study abroad. 

Spring 2025 Deadlines

August 1, 2024

All Petition Programs (petition applications and all supporting materials must be received by this date)

Students should also be aware of external program application deadlines.

August 15, 2024

Final Application Deadline for Brown in Bologna.

Recommended Internal application deadline for all other all other Brown/CASA programs and Approved Alternative Programs.

September 15, 2024Final Internal application deadline for all other Brown/CASA programs and Approved Alternative Programs. All applications and any supporting materials required (including transcript, recommendation forms, etc.) must be received by the Brown study abroad staff by this date.
November 1, 2024Commitment Deadline for Spring 2025 study abroad. 
November 8, 2024Recommended (early) deadline for Global Independent Study Project (GLISP) proposals
November 15, 2024Final deadline for Global Independent Study Project (GLISP) proposals All GLISP proposals and required supporting materials (including faculty sponsor form) must be received by Study Abroad Advising by this date.
